Blue jeans, the staple of casual wear for over a century, from miners to cowboys, to fashionistas today, they have come a long way. They come in all sorts of fits, styles and colors, but what really gives them their iconic look is the distressed, worn-in feel. It’s that perfect balance of looking like you’ve been through some rough times, but still managing to keep it together and looking stylish.

However so, the jeans industry has long been criticized for its negative impact on the environment, with fast fashion brands often being the main culprits. There are some brands that are making a conscious effort to be more sustainable and eco-friendly in their production processes. We are proud to be counted among them, and we believe that our actions will inspire others to follow suit.

Stone Washing

Let’s get real here. When it comes to creating that perfect worn-down look on denim, stone washing is the go-to process. Back in the late seventies, some genius discovered that using pumice stones could accelerate the aging process of indigo-dyed denim. And thus, a fashion staple was born.

Today, pumice stones are the most widely used stones in the denim industry for this process. They are packed with tiny pores, which give them sharp edges and make them fit for abrasion.

The havoc behind the curtains

In recent years, we’ve got another case of “oops, we didn’t think this one through.” After decades of relying on traditional pumice washing to create that perfect denim look, Baytech has discovered that the environment has been taking a major hit. And the effects? Well, they’re starting to become pretty darn visible.

It’s kind of like that time in the 1920s when even doctors were getting in on the cigarette advertising game. Turns out, smoking wasn’t exactly the healthiest habit around. And now, we’re left dealing with the consequences.

But, let’s not dwell on the past. HMS allows for more sustainable denim fading processes, which means we can all breathe a little easier knowing that our fashion choices aren’t destroying the planet. Sustainability and fashion can totally coexist, and to all you other fashion brands out there, take note. It’s time to start investing in sustainable technologies and processes, because let’s face it, we’ve already made enough mistakes as it is.

A guilt-free revolution

You know that feeling when you buy a new pair of jeans and then find out later that the production process involved harmful chemicals or wasted resources? It sucks. But there’s good news: BayTech has been working on a solution.

Their new technology, called HMS (Hand Made Stone), is the result of years of research and experimentation. And get this – it’s made with pumice dust blended with organic  polymers! That means you can have that stonewashed look without feeling guilty about the environmental impact.

The best part? HMS stones are recyclable and don’t create pollutive sludge like traditional pumice stones. Plus, they give even better results! It’s a win-win.

Top reasons why HMS is a rage these days

Upto 72,000 garments by 1 metric ton of HMS!

One metric ton of HMS can wash up to 72,000 garments in one go? That’s a lot, right? And get this, HMS has 60 times more capacity to wash garments than conventional stones. So, if you want to save time and increase efficiency in your garment washing process, you should definitely consider using HMS. Trust us, the fashion industry and mother nature itself will thank you for it!

Upcycled pumice dust + ZDHC components – 0 plastic

When it comes to making sustainable denim, we don’t mess around. That’s why we use the upcycled pumice dust itself in our production process, which not only gives our denim that cool stonewashed look, but also helps reduce waste.

But that’s not all. We also follow the guidelines set forth by ZDHC – the global organization committed to eliminating hazardous chemicals in the fashion industry. We implement their Manufacturing Restricted Substances List to ensure that the chemicals we use are safe for the environment and the people who work with them. We also use their Chemical Management System to manage our inventory, conduct risk assessments, and work with our suppliers to ensure they meet our standards.

And let’s not forget about wastewater – we ensure that the water we discharge meets certain quality standards and is free of hazardous chemicals.

HMS is the only sustainable composite abrasive that is listed on the EIM

At our company, we are always striving to minimize our impact on the environment. We have been working hard to create a circular production model and reduce waste, harmful chemicals, and energy consumption. Our goal is to create products that have the least impact possible on the planet.

Transparency is very important to us, and we want you to know exactly what goes into making our denim products. To help us track our progress and communicate it to you, we have listed HMS to EIM. EIM stands for Environment Impact Measurement, and it’s a software that specifically measures the sustainability of a garment.

The EIM tool assesses the environmental impact in four categories:

  • water consumption,
  • energy consumption,
  • chemical product usage, and
  • worker health.

The software then gives us a score of

  • low,
  • medium, or
  • high impact.

We are proud to say that 100% of our collection scored a low impact rating, which is the best rating possible!

We also want to note that HMS is the only sustainable composite abrasive that is listed on the EIM. We take our sustainability efforts seriously, and we are committed to creating products that both give beautiful asthetic and are eco-friendly.

HMS provides ETP like efficiency and does not damage your water recycling system

We know that water is a precious resource, and we’re doing everything we can to make sure we’re using it wisely.

One of the ways we’re doing this is by incorporating the efficiency of efficient Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) in our production process. Our techniques help us treat the water we use before we release it back into the environment, so it’s clean and safe for all the plants and animals out there.

But that’s not all! We’re also working hard to conserve water by using it as efficiently as possible in our production process. And we’re not stopping there – we’re also recycling water wherever we can, like in our dyeing process.

We believe that sustainability is more than just a buzzword – it’s our responsibility as a company to do everything we can to protect the planet. That’s why we’re always looking for ways to improve our water management systems and reduce our impact on the environment.

Thanks for joining us on this journey towards a greener, cleaner and guilt free future of denim industry. Together, we can make a difference!
